Retirees Association
Ohio State Troopers Retirees Association (OSTRA) is charged with looking after the interests of Troopers and their families after retirement.
The association was created in June of 2001 and currently has members from all ranks, sections and uniforms of retirees of the division. The purpose of OSTRA is to promote issues, which would enhance the law enforcement profession; to ease the transition from an active member of the Ohio Highway Patrol to a retired member of the Ohio Highway Patrol; to research new avenues for health insurance and other benefits for retired members of the Ohio Highway Patrol and to work with the Department of Public Safety and the Superintendent of the State Highway Patrol in furthering these purposes.
As an OSTRA Member, you have a trustee elected by your district lodge to help oversee and guide your elected officers of OSTRA.

Your elected officers are as follows: President, Bruce Zuchowski, Vice-President, Dennis Gorski, and Treasurer, Dan Stockdale. The elected officers and trustees will be working hard to bring you new services in the future. We want to hear from you regarding concerns you have about your retirement.
As a dues-paying member, you are also eligible for the blanket Two Thousand Dollar ($2,000) death benefit through the Ohio State Trooper Retirees Association (OSTRA). Please note that if the member should pass from being under the influence of alcohol, or the voluntary taking of drugs not prescribed by a doctor or committing or attempting to commit a felony or assault, the benefit will not payout. Benefit limits (age requirements and dollar amounts) are subject to change per the Combined Board. To initiate a claim for the benefit, please contact the OSTRA office at 614.781.7686 within three (3) months of the member’s death.

It is suggested that you designate a primary and contingent beneficiary on the Beneficiary Designation form and forward it to the OSTRA. Please note that the benefit cannot be split among multiple surviving beneficiaries. For example, if you have three children, you must designate a primary and a contingent beneficiary but you are not permitted to designate a third. The benefit will pay out to the primary beneficiary unless they precede you in death and then it will pay out to the contingent beneficiary listed.

To avoid needless delay in initiating payment of benefits to the member’s beneficiary, if you have not already done so, we request that you designate a primary and contingent beneficiary on the Beneficiary Designation form and forward it to the OSTRA. The Beneficiary Designation form is available by clicking on the link below.

OSTRA Application Process/Membership Fees

To apply for OSTRA membership, you must complete the attached Membership Application and Beneficiary Designation Form and mail them to OSTRA at the address listed above. You can pay by authorizing the automatic payroll deduction of $2.00 per month or you can make a check payable to OSTRA in the amount of $24.00 for the entire year.

If the calendar year has already begun, you may deduct Two Dollars ($2.00) per month that has already passed. For example, if you would like to begin your membership and mail in your payment during the month of February, then your benefits would begin the month of March and your check should be in the amount of $20.00 for the remainder of the year.

If you have any questions about this association, please feel free to contact our office at 614-781-7686.

Sincerely,
